Case Description
In Moscow in August 2024, the FSB detained two Colombian citizens - Jose Aron Aranda Medina and Alexander Ante. During the search, documents allegedly confirming their participation in combat actions against the Russian Federation on the side of Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian military uniforms with insignia of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' 'Carpathian Sich' battalion, were reportedly found and seized from the detained individuals. Colombians were accused of mercenary activities. On August 26, 2024, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow sent the men under arrest. El Tiempo, a Colombian publication, wrote about the disappearance of these people in July 2024. One of them was supposed to arrive in his homeland via Warsaw and Madrid, but never made it. Apparently, the Colombians were detained by Venezuelan security forces.
