Case Description
In January 2023, a criminal case was opened in Moscow for the dissemination of "fakes" about the Russian army motivated by political hatred, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, against political scientist Abbas Gallyamov and Ukrainian journalist Alexander Prepodobny. The reason for the criminal prosecution was an interview with the political scientist, published on April 9, 2022, on the YouTube channel "Groshi" (a special project of the 1+1 TV channel). According to the security forces, Gallyamov "at an exact time not established by the investigation, being in an unspecified place outside of Russia, using an unspecified technical device, disseminated knowingly false information containing information about the use of the RF Armed Forces to destroy populated areas and the killing of civilians in Bucha and Kramatorsk." Gallyamov was put on the wanted list. On March 4, 2024, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow placed the political scientist under house arrest in absentia. On July 29, 2024, Judge Timur Vakhrameev of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow found the defendants guilty and sentenced Abbas Gallyamov and Ukrainian journalist Alexander Prepodobny to 8 years in a general regime colony each.
